chicken out
If someone chickens out of something they were intending to do, they decide not to do it because they are afraid.
I had never ridden on a motorcycle before. But it was too late to chicken out.
Given this tension, it is no wonder that some people chicken out entirely.
Wuss out
wuss out=chicken out=慫了
例句:
I was going to go into the haunted house, but then I wussed out and stayed home.
He said he was going to climb that tree, but he wussed out at the last moment.
By attacking me, by attacking my wife, he has proved himself to be a gutless coward.
duck out
duck out 一般用來形容人,to sneak out of some place when one is among other people,就是“偷偷離開人群”的意思。
例句:
He just managed to duck out of sight.
Pushing Herb in, she held the door handle to make sure he did not duck out again.
pig out
pig out
If you say that people are pigging out, you are criticizing them for eating a very large amount at one meal or over a short period of time.
He said: Basically they just come in and pig out.
If we go to the pizza place we can really pig out.
表示具體吃某樣?xùn)|西的時候,可以用pig out on something.
例句:
Would you like to pig out on pizza?
We can pig out on potato chips and cookies.
fish out
fish out
Instead of lingering at the intersection flailing your hand in the air, you fish out your smartphone.
Sometimes, she would fish out a mirror from his pocket and look in it.
I think he thought of himself as a country gentleman and was like a fish out of water in Birmingham.
At the party, I felt like a fish out of water in my shabby clothes.
