第8期:English Pod - What's Your Name Again?

「晨讀音頻」

Hello, English learners. And welcome back to my channel! I'm Reevs. Good morning!

大家好,歡迎來到懶人英語晨讀欄目,我是Reevs,早上好呀。

And I've got a great lesson for everyone today.

今天我會(huì)給大家上一堂精彩的課。

What are we going to talk about today specifically?
今天我們具體要講什么內(nèi)容?

Today we have a really common situation that is a little bit embarrassing.

今天我們有一個(gè)很常見的情況,有點(diǎn)尷尬。

All right, an embarrassing situation. So, let's listen to the dialogue.

尷尬的情況是什么呢?那么,讓我們來先聽一下對(duì)話。

「對(duì)話文本」

Ana: Nick! How’s it going?

尼克,最近怎樣?

Nick: Oh, hey...

噢,你好

Ana: What are you doing in this neighbourhood? Do you live around here?

你在這里做什么呢?你住在這附近嗎?

Nick: Actually, my office is right around the corner.

事實(shí)上,我的辦公室就在轉(zhuǎn)角處。

Ana: It was great to meet you last week at the conference. I really enjoyed our conversation about foreign investment.

很高興在上周的會(huì)議上見到你。關(guān)于對(duì)外投資的交談很愉快。

Nick: Yeah, yeah, it was really interesting. You know, I’m in a bit of a hurry, but here’s my card. We should definitely meet up again and continue our discussion.

是的是的,談?wù)摵苡腥?。你知道么,我的時(shí)間有點(diǎn)趕,這是我的名片。我們應(yīng)該再次見面,繼續(xù)我們的討論。

Ana: Sure, you still have my contact details, right ?

一定。你還有我的聯(lián)系方式吧?

Nick: You know what, this is really embarrassing, but your name has just slipped my mind. Can you remind me?

你知道嗎,這太令人尷尬了,我突然忘記了你的名字。提醒我一下好嗎?

Ana: Sure, my name is Ana Ferris. Don’t worry about it; It happens to me all the time. I’m terrible with names too.

當(dāng)然,我叫Ana Ferris。別在意,這種事常常發(fā)生。我也總記不得名字。?

「重要發(fā)音技巧」

And we're back. For now, here are some useful pronunciation tips. Let's take a look.
歡迎回來,現(xiàn)在一起來看一下對(duì)話中的實(shí)用發(fā)音技巧。

1. 輔元連讀 + Flap TWhat are

對(duì)話中:Ana What are you doing in this neighbourhood?

連讀分析:前一個(gè)單詞詞尾為輔音,后一個(gè)單詞開頭為元音的時(shí)候,可以做輔元連讀,讀為/w?tɑ?r/。

Flap T 分析:/t/ 在兩個(gè)元音之間且非重讀的時(shí)候,/t/ 可以讀為一個(gè)很輕的/d/, 所以讀為/w?tɑ?r/。

復(fù)述:What are you doing in this neighbourhood?

2. 輔元連讀: in a

    輔元連讀 + Flap Tbit of

對(duì)話中: Nick: I'm in a bit of a hurry.

I'm in a bit of a hurry.

「核心單詞掌握」

OK, all right. Let's look at some interesting vocabulary here.
好的,我們來看一些有趣的詞匯。

So first word is investment.
那么第一個(gè)單詞是investment。

1. investment   /?n?vestm?nt/   n. 投資
Dialogue里面Ana提到的foreign investment,對(duì)外投資。如果想要投資,一定少不了要有投資機(jī)會(huì)對(duì)吧,所以投資機(jī)會(huì)就是investment opportunities。

Okay, I have another interesting word for you and that's conference.
好,我還有另外一個(gè)有趣的單詞,那就是conference。

2. conference   /?kɑ?nf?r?ns/   n. 會(huì)議
Dialogue里面AnaIt was great to meet you last week at the conference.

所以在會(huì)議上,就是at the conference。
那如果是參加會(huì)議,就是 attend a conference。

Alright, the last word that I wanna take a look at is embarrassing.
好的,最后一個(gè)來學(xué)習(xí)的單詞是embarrassing。

3. embarrassing   /?m?b?r?s??/   adj. 令人尷尬的
In the beginning of our lesson, I said it was an embarrassing situation.
So we also could say: That was an embarrassing situation for Nick.
今天課程開始的時(shí)候,我有提到是一個(gè)尷尬的場(chǎng)景,那我們也可以說,對(duì)Nick來說,那是個(gè)令人尷尬的場(chǎng)面。

「實(shí)用口語表達(dá)」

For now let's look at some interesting phrases.
我們一起來看看核心的表達(dá)。
Okay, the first one is “How's it going?”.
好的,第一個(gè)是 How's it going?”。

1. How's it going? 最近怎么樣?

This is a really great phrase, sounds really really natural. Sometimes, I hear my students say "how are you?" or "how are you doing?".
這是一個(gè)非常好的短語,聽起來非常非常自然。
你知道有時(shí)候,我聽到學(xué)生說,你好嗎?或者你過得怎么樣?
Those are two great phrases, but this one sounds really really natural. It just sounds more casual.
這是兩個(gè)很好的短語,但這個(gè)聽起來真的真的很自然,只是聽起來比較隨意。

Ok. Now let's look at our second phrase and it's "contact details"
好的,現(xiàn)在讓我們看看我們的第二個(gè)短語,它是聯(lián)系方式。

2. contact details 聯(lián)系方式
So what are your contact details?
你的聯(lián)系方式是什么?
Basically, this is information you can find on your business card.
基本上,這是你可以在名片上找到的信息。

All right. So we have like our name, our telephone number.
好的,會(huì)有我們的名字,電話號(hào)碼。
Your e-mail address, perhaps your mobile phone number.
你的電子郵件地址,也許還有你的手機(jī)號(hào)碼。

So all the useful information that people can get in touch with you.
所以,是別人可以與你取得聯(lián)系的所有有用信息。

Yeah, so people can phone you or email you.
是的,這樣人們就可以給你打電話或發(fā)郵件了。

So for Ana in this dialogue, she could say: I'll give you my contact details.
所以對(duì)Ana來說,她可以對(duì)Nick說,我給你我的聯(lián)系方式。

So our third phrase is “in a bit of a hurry”.

所以我們第三個(gè)短語是有點(diǎn)匆忙。

3. in a bit of a hurry 有點(diǎn)匆忙

So Nick was in a hurry.
所以尼克是有點(diǎn)匆忙。

This is a great phrase. So let's listen to some examples of how you can use this phrase.
這是一個(gè)很棒的短語。讓我們來聽一些例子,看看這個(gè)短語的用法。

Example 1 1
Can you drive faster? I'm in a bit of hurry.
你能開快點(diǎn)嗎?我有點(diǎn)急。

Example 2 2
I can't talk right now, I'm in a bit of hurry.
我現(xiàn)在不方便說話,我有急事。

Now let's look at our next phrase. And it's “slip my mind”.
好的。所以我們的下一個(gè)短語是我忘記了。

4. slip my mind 我忘記了
This is a funny phrase. It's kind of strange, right?
這是個(gè)有趣的短語,有點(diǎn)奇怪,對(duì)吧?
So, now, we're gonna listen to two examples of this phrase. Try and see if you can figure out what it means.

沒錯(cuò),現(xiàn)在我們來聽兩個(gè)關(guān)于短語的例子。試試看你能不能搞明白這是什么意思。

Example 1 1

I'm sorry I forget to respond your e-mail. It just slipped my mind.
對(duì)不起,我忘了回你的電子郵件了,我忘記了。

Example 2
- Don't you know what day is it today?
你不知道今天是什么日子嗎?
- Oh, it's your birthday. It completely slipped my mind.
噢,今天是你生日。我完全忘了。

Ah, so slip my mind, it's like I forgot.
啊,我忘記了,好像我忘了。
You forgot something.
你忘了某些東西。

Now our last phrase is “terrible with”.

現(xiàn)在我們最后一個(gè)短語是不怎么樣。

5. terrible with...    (在某方面)不怎么樣
So we have a couple of examples that would show you how this phrase works.
我們有幾個(gè)例子來說明這個(gè)短語的用法。

Example 1 1
You're terrible with numbers, you can't even remember your own telephone numbers.
你對(duì)數(shù)字一竅不通,連自己的電話號(hào)碼都記不住。

Example 2 2
I'm terrible with direction. I'm always getting lost.
我的方向感很差,總是迷路。

Now, it's time for us to review what we've learned today.
現(xiàn)在我們來回顧一下今天所學(xué)習(xí)的,要跟上我一起來認(rèn)真回顧,思考起來。
