TITANIC
Good morning, everyone. We are honored to be here for you. The repertoire of our performance is TITANIC.[投影上出現(xiàn)泰坦尼克的照片] Titanic is called “the ship of dreams”.She really was. She was the largest moving object ever made by the hand of man in all history. Is it right,Rose?
Rose:It was the ship of dreams- to everyone else.To me it was a slave ship taking me back to America in chains.Outwardly I was everything,a well-brought-up girl should be.Inside I was screaming.
Why?
Rose:What I want is not what you think. Not the money, the best car,and the largest house, but the freedom, love and true appreciation of life.(投影上出現(xiàn)一幅畢加索的畫(huà))God not those finger paintings again!
Cal]
Cal:Waste of money!
Rose:The difference between your taste and mine is that.I have some. They're fascinating.Like being inside a dreamor something. There's truth but no logic.
Cal:What's the artist's name?
Rose:Something Picasso.
Cal:(輕蔑地笑)'Something Picasso'.He won't amount to a thing. Trust me.
[Cal
敘述者:So……?
Wish God be with you.
[Jack右上]
Jack:Don't do it.
Rose(回頭驚訝,大聲)Stay back.Don't come any closer.
Jack:Come on.(伸出手)Give me your hand. I'll pull you back.
Rose:No!Stay where you are. I mean it.
Jack: I'll let go.(借把手中煙頭丟到海里的動(dòng)作,靠近Rose) No you won't.
Rose:What do you mean no I won't?Don't presume to tell me what I will and will not do.
Jack:Well you would've done it already.
Rose:You're distracting me. Go away.
Jack:I can't.I'm involved now.You let go and I'm gonna have to jump in there after you.(脫鞋子)
Rose:Don't be absurd. You'll be killed.
Jack:I'm a good swimmer.
Rose:The fall alone would kill you.
Jack:It would hurt.I'm not saying it wouldn't.But I'm more concerned about that water being so cold.
Rose:How cold?
Jack:Freezing.Maybe a couple of degrees over. You ever uh...Ever been to Wisconsin?
Rose:What?
Jack:They have some of the coldest winters.I grew up there near Chippewa Falls.
When I was a kid. My father and I went ice fishing out on Lake Wissota.Ice fishing is where you...
Rose:(打斷)I know what ice fishing is!
Jack:Sorry. You just seem like you know kind of an indoor girl.Anyway I uh...I fell through some thin ice.And I'm telling you water that cold like right down there it hits you like a thousand knives stabbing you all over. You can't breathe...You can't think...At least not about anything but the pain.Which is why I'm not looking forward to jumping in there after you.Like I said I don't have a choice.I'm hoping you'll come back over the rail and get me off the hook here.
Rose:You're crazy.
Jack:That's what everybody says but...With all due respect.Miss,I'm not the one hanging off the back of a ship.Come on.(伸手) Come on give me your hand. You don't wanna do this.
Rose:Whew!(伸手,兩人握住)
Jack:I'm Jack Dawson.
Rose:Rose DeWitt Bukater.
Jack:I'll have to get you to write that down!Come on.
Jack:(急叫)I got you! Come on!Come on!(將其抱過(guò)來(lái),沖擊力太大,倒在地上)
Cal:What's all this?(沖上去)You stand back! And don't move an inch!Fetch the master-at-arms!How dare you put your hands on my fianc!
Rose: Cal...
Cal:What do you think you were doing?
Rose:Cal,stop! It was an accident.
Cal:An accident?
Rose:It was.Stupid really.I was leaning over and I slipped.I was leaning far over to see the uh...uh...the uh...
Bruce: Propellers?
Rose:Propellers. And I slipped.I would have gone over board but Mr Dawson here saved meand almost went over himself.
Cal:(苦笑)She wanted to see the propellers!
Bruce:Women and machinery do not mix.(向Jack)Was that the way of it?
Jack:Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty much it.
Bruce:The boy's a hero then.Good for you son. Well done.So it's all's well and uh...back to our brandy eh?
Cal:(抱住Rose)Look at you. You must be freezing.Let's get you inside.
Bruce:Perhaps a little something for the boy?
Cal:Of course.I think a 20 should do it.
Rose:Is that the going rate for saving the woman you love?
Cal:Rose is displeased. What to do...I know.Perhaps you could join us
for dinner tomorrow evening to regale our group with...your heroic tale.
Jack:Sure. Count me in.
Cal:Good. Settled then.
Cal:Sorry,are you watching the ocean?
Rose:en.
Cal:I know ,you……
Rose:No.
Cal:Ok,I know you've been melancholy.I don't pretend to know why.I intended to save this until the engagement gala next week.But... I thought...tonight.
Rose:Good gracious!
Cal:A reminder of my feelings for you.
Rose:Is it a...?
Cal:Diamond? Yes.carats to be 56 exact. It was worn by Louis XVI and they called it 'Le Coeur de la Mer'.
合:The Heart of the Ocean.
Rose:It's overwhelming.
Cal:Well it's for royalty.We are royalty Rose.You know there's nothing
I couldn't give you. There's nothing I'd deny you if you would not deny me.Oh open your heart to me,Rose.
Jack:Well,I've been on my own since I was……since my folks died.
I had no close kin in that part of the country. So I left and I haven't been back since. You could just call me a tumble weed blowing in the wind.Well Rose we've walked about a mile around this boat deck and chewed over how great the weather's been and how I grew up but I reckon that's not why you came to talk to me is it?
Rose: Mr Dawson I...
Jack:Jack.
Rose:Jack.I want to thank you for what you did.Notjust for... for pulling me back but for your discretion.
Jack:You're welcome.
Rose:Look,I know what.you must be thinking.Poor little rich girl. What does she know about misery?
Jack:No... No that's not what I was thinking.I was thinking what could have happened to this girl to make her think she had no way out.
Rose:Well I...It was everything. It was my whole world and all the people in it.The inertia of my life... plunging ahead and me powerless to stop it.
Jack:God! Look at that thing!(看了一下Jack的戒指)You would've gone straight to the bottom.
Rose:500 invitations have gone out.All of Philadelphia society will be there and all the while I feel I'm standing in a crowded room screaming at the top of my lungs and no-one even looks up.
Jack:Do you love him?
Rose:(一愣)Pardon me?
Jack:Do you love him?
Rose:You shouldn't be asking me this.
Jack:It's a simple question.Do you love the guy or not?
Rose:This is not a suitable conversation.
Jack:Can't you just answer the question?
Rose:This is absurd. You don't know me and I don't know you and we are not having this conversation. You are rude and uncouth and... I am leaving now.Jack... Mr Dawson (握手)it's been a pleasure.I sought you out to thank you,and now I have thank you.
Jack: And you insulted me.
Rose:(看到Jack的畫(huà)冊(cè),搶了過(guò)來(lái))What is this stupid thing you're carrying around? So what are you?An artist or something?Well... these are rather good. They're uh...they're very good actually.
Rose:Jack,this is exquisite work.
Jack:They didn't like them in old Paris.
And these were drawn from life?
Jack:That's the good thing about Paris.Lots of girlswilling to take their clothes off.
Rose:You liked this woman. You used her several times.
Jack:Well, she had beautiful hands you see?
Rose:I think you must have had a love affair with her.
Jack:No,no,no.Just with her hands……
He must have been nervous but he never faltered. They assumed he was one of them.Heir to a railroad fortune perhaps.New money obviously but still a member of the club.Rose’s mother,of course ,could always be counted upon.
RM:Tell us of the accommodations in steerage,Mr Dawson.I hear they're quite good.
Jack:The best I've seen ma'am.Hardly any rats.(眾笑)
Cal:Mr Dawson is joining us from the third class. He was of some assistance
to my fianc last night.
Rose:Mr Dawson is quite a fine artist. He was kind enough to show me some of his work today.
Cal:Rose and I differ somewhat in our definition of fine art.Not to impugn your work, sir.
Rose:Your ship is a wonder,Mr Andrews.
Bruce:Thank you,Rose.
RM:And where exactly do you live Mr Dawson?
Jack:Well, right now my address is the Titanic. After that I'm on God's good humour.
RM:And how is it you have means to travel?
Jack:I work my way from place to place. You know tramp steamers and such. But I won my ticket on Titanic here at a lucky hand at poker.A very lucky hand.
Bruce:All life is a game of luck.
Cal:A real man makes his own luck.Right Dawson?
Jack:Mm.
RM:And you find that sort of rootless existence appealing,do you?
Jack:yes ma'am I do.(起身)I mean... Got everything I need right here with me,Got air in my lung, sand a few sheets of paper.I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or who I'm gonna meet where I'm gonna wind up.The other night I slept under a bridge. Now I'm on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people.I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it.You never know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you to make each day count.
Landy 1:Well said Jack.
Bruce:Hear hear!
Rose:(舉杯)To making it count.
合:To making it count.
Jack:So you wanna go to a real party?
Jack:(到舞臺(tái)中央)Come on.Come on!(后面沖出一群人,沖著Rose喊)Come on!Come with me.
Rose:Jack... Jack wait!I can't do this.
Jack:We have to get a bit closer.Like this.
Cal:I had hoped you would come to me last night.
Rose:I was tired.
Cal:Your exertions below decks were no doubt exhausting.
Rose:You had a manservant followed me? How typical.
Cal:You will never behave like that again,Rose. Do you understand?
Rose:I'm not a foreman in one of your mills that you can command.I'm your fiance.
Cal:My fiance? My fiance?(起身,推到桌子,暴怒)!Yes,you are and my wife!My wife in practice if not yet by law so you will honour me.You will honour me the way a wife is required to.I will not be made a fool of.Is this in any way unclear?
Rose:No.
Cal:Good.Excuse me.
RM:You're not to see that boy again.Do you understand me?Rose(提高聲調(diào)) ,I forbid it.
Rose:Oh,stop it,Mother.You'll give yourself a nosebleed.
RM:This is not a game.Our situation is precarious.You know the money's gone.
Rose:Of course I know it's gone. You remind me every day.
RM:Your father left us nothing but a legacy of bad debts hidden by a good name. That name is the only card we have to play.I don't understand you.It is a fine match with Cal.It will ensure our survival.
Rose:How can you put this on my shoulders?
RM:Why are you being so selfish?
Rose:I'm being selfish?
RM:Do you want to see me working as a seamstress? Is that what you want?
To see our fine things sold at auction? Our memories scattered to the winds!
Rose:It's so unfair.
RM:Of course it's unfair.We're women.Our choices are never easy.Hmm?
Rose:Jack this is impossible.I can't see you.
Jack:I need to talk to you.
Rose:No,Jack.No,Jack.I'm engaged.I'm marrying Cal.I love Cal.
Jack:Rose... you're no picnic. You're a spoiled little brat even. But you're the most amazingly astounding wonderful girl ,woman that I've ever known and...
Rose:- Jack...
Jock:Let me try and get this out. You're ama...I'm not an idiot.I know how the world works.I've got ten bucks in my pocket and I have nothing to offer you.I understand. But I'm too involved now.You jump,I jump remember?I can't turn away without knowing you'll be all right. That's all I want.
Rose:Well,I'm fine.I'll be fine... Really.
Jack:Really?I don't think so.They've got you trapped.Rose! And you'll die if you don't break free.Maybe not right away because you're strong but that fire that I love about you!Rose, that fire is gonna burn out.
Rose:It's not up to you to save me,Jack.
Jack:You're right.Only you can do that.
Rose:I'm going back.[燈暗]
What about the late?
Rose: I am back.Because I saw my whole life as if I'd already lived it .The endless parade of partiesand cotillions yachts and polo matches.Always the same narrow people, the same mindless chatter.I felt like I was standing at a great precipice with no-one to pull me back.No-one who cared or even noticed. No one ,but Jack.
Rose:Hello,Jack.I changed my mind. They said you might be...
Jack:Shh...Give me your hand.(伸手,握住了Rose的手)Now close your eyes.Go on.Step up.Now hold on to the railing.Keep your eyes closed. Don't peek.
Rose:I'm not.
Jack:Hold on... Hold on.Keep your eyes closed.Do you trust me?
Rose:I trust you.
Jack:All right...Open your eyes.

Jack:I'll be fine. I'm a survivor all right?Don't worry about me.Now go on get on.
Cal:I have an arrangement with an officer on the ship.Jack and I can get off safely.
Jack:See?Got my own boat to catch.
Cal:Hurry!They're almost full.

Rose:It's getting quiet.
Jack:(凍得不行了)It's just gonna take 'em a couple of minutes to get the boats organised.I don't know about you but I intend to write a strongly worded letter to the White Star Line about all this.
Rose:(虛弱地)I love you Jack.
Jack:Don't you do that.Don't you say your goodbyes. Not yet.Do you understand me?
Rose:I'm so cold.
Jack:Listen Rose...You're gonna get out of here. You're gonna go on and you're
gonna make lots of babies and you're gonna watch 'em grow. You're gonna die an old an old lady warm in her bed.Not here. Not this night. Not like this.Do you understand me?
Rose:I can't feel my body.
Jack:Winning that ticket was the best thing that ever happened to me.It brought me to you and I'm thankful for that Rose.I'm thankful. You must... You must...You must do me this honour...You must promise me that you'll survive...that you won't give up no matter what happens...no matter how hopeless.Promise me now Rose...and never let go of that promise.
