A Historical Figure in China
There are certainly many famous names in China, yet not many of them are women. So today I want to share with you one female whose story has been told over generations for hundreds of years.
Her name is Hua Mulan, a young girl who takes her father's place in the army to help save her country. She is so tough at the battlefields that her gender is never questioned by the men who served with her.
Today Mulan is not only seen as a female warrior but also as a heroine challenging the rules and breaking boundaries. Her story has inspired more Chinese women to fight for freedom and equal opportunity.

The past summer vacation is so fruitful for me since I have learned how to edit videos. Now I am successful in making my own vlogs!
It is very important to learn video editing so as to become a content creator on today’s internet. I started by selecting useful materials online and gradually progressed into the use of apps customized for different needs. It was challenging at the beginning but I’ve worked hard towards my goal.
It is sometimes frustrating that even a short video clip may take me up to several hours to make and perfect. However, my time sitting in front of the desk has taught me to be patient and creative. It's a valuable skill to have in today's digital age, and I believe it will open up many opportunities for me in the future.

Dear Ryan,
Learning that you want to pair students randomly for spoken English practice I am writing to I express some concerns about this.
Pairing students randomly may not be the best way for them to learn. Some students might have different English levels, which could make them feel overwhelmed or unchallenged during practice.
In my opinion, grouping students based on their English levels would be better. When students with similar abilities practice together, they can give each other feedback and focus on improving specific areas. This can create a supportive learning environment.
Thank you for listening to my concerns. I appreciate your efforts to improve our spoken English, and I'm looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Li Hua
第二節(jié)(滿分25分)
閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (銀匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half-dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud and said “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.
注意:
1. 續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150個(gè)左右;
2. 請按如下格式在答題卡的相應(yīng)位置作答。

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.
I won the first prize! I couldn’t believe it at first. Yet looking back to the days when I had worked hard day and night only to complete my one only story on Paul Revere’s horse, I was gradually overwhelmed by a strong sense of joy and happiness. The next day, I put on my best suit and proudly headed to the award presentation ceremony, where I, a Brazilian who won the champion for an English writing contest, became the absolute spotlight with my friends and family all present to congratulate me on my achievement. However, all I had in mind was to share my trophy as soon as possible with one person in particular.
I went to my teacher’s office after the APC.
The minute I stepped in, he laughed out loud again as has had before, and said “congratulations! I know you are an amazing storyteller!” Seeing his smile on face, I could no longer hold back my tears, for now I truly understood the love, trust and encouragement behind his laughter all this time. “Had it not been for you, mister, I wouldn’t have done it.” I thanked him with heartfelt gratitude. He patted me gently on my shoulder and in his eyes, I saw a teacher’s belief in an immigrant child’s talent, hard-work and perseverance. Since that day, I never stopped writing, despite the challenge of English being my second language.
