莫莉的第一次派對(duì)
Molly had four nice pets to play with.
莫莉有四個(gè)非常要好的寵物玩伴。
Their name were Jumbo, Big Boy, Penny, and Quack.
他們的名字分別是：江寶、“大男孩”、潘尼和呱呱。
Jumbo was a fat little pig who liked to dig holes with his nose.
江寶是一頭愛用鼻子挖洞的小肥豬。
Big Boy was a big white rooster who was very proud.
“大男孩”是一只十分驕傲的白色大公雞。
Penny was a little dog who could do tricks.
潘尼是一只會(huì)耍把戲的小狗。
And you can guess that Quack was a little yellow duck.
你可能猜到了，呱呱是一只小黃鴨。
Molly had just come to town from the farm.
莫莉剛從農(nóng)場(chǎng)搬到城鎮(zhèn)，
She did not know any children in town, but she had a good time playing with her pets.
鎮(zhèn)上的孩子她一個(gè)都不認(rèn)識(shí)。但她和她的寵物們玩得很開心。
After school started, Molly made many new friends.
開學(xué)以后，莫莉交了很多新朋友。
All the children liked her and were very nice to her.
所有的孩子都喜歡莫莉，對(duì)她非常友善。
One day Betty Jane asked Molly to come to a party at her house on the next Saturday.
一天，貝蒂.簡(jiǎn)邀請(qǐng)莫莉下周六去她家里參加一個(gè)派對(duì)。
Molly had never gone to a party before.
莫莉以前從未參加過派對(duì)。
She was so happy that she ran all the way home to tell her mother about it.
她高興地一路跑回家，將這件事告訴了媽媽。
Molly's mother was happy, too, when Molly told her about the party.
當(dāng)莫莉?qū)⑴蓪?duì)的事告訴媽媽時(shí)，莫莉的媽媽也很開心。
"I know that you will have a nice time," she said.
“我知道你肯定會(huì)玩得非常開心，”她說，
"And you shall have a new dress for your first party."
“你也該為你的第一次派對(duì)買一條新裙子?！?/p>
Molly thought she could not wait for Saturday to come.
莫莉已經(jīng)等不及了，一心想著星期六快點(diǎn)兒到來。
But Saturday afternoon came at last, and Molly was ready for the party.
終于到了星期六的下午，莫莉做好了去參加派對(duì)的準(zhǔn)備。
When she went out into the yard, all the pets were there waiting for her. They wanted to go with her.
當(dāng)她來到屋外院子的時(shí)候，寵物們正在那里等著她，他們想和她一塊兒去。
"Oh, dear!" said Molly. "I wonder if the pets will try to follow me. If they do, they may get lost."
“噢，天哪！”莫莉說，“不知道他們會(huì)不會(huì)跟著我。要是那樣，他們可能會(huì)走丟的?！?/p>
"Shut them up in the garage," said her mother. "Then they cannot follow you."
“把它們關(guān)在車庫(kù)里吧，”莫莉的媽媽說道，“這樣他們就不會(huì)跟著你了?！?/p>
Molly put all her pets in the garage.
莫莉把所有的寵物都趕進(jìn)了車庫(kù)。
"Good-by, my dears," she said. "I am sorry to shut you in here. But I'll soon be back to play with you."
“再見，親愛的，”她說，“我很抱歉把你們關(guān)在這里，但是我很快就會(huì)回來和你們一起玩的?！?/p>
Molly went down the street with her head very high. She was proud because she was going to a party and because she had a new dress.
莫莉走在街上，頭揚(yáng)得可高了。她非常自豪，不僅因?yàn)樗龑⒁⒓优蓪?duì)，還因?yàn)樗┲氯棺印?/p>
When she came near Betty Jane's house, Molly saw the children playing in the yard. She began to hurry, for she was afraid that she was late.
快到貝蒂.簡(jiǎn)家的時(shí)候，莫莉看見許多孩子正在院子里玩耍。她趕緊加快腳步，生怕會(huì)遲到。
All at once Molly heard the children laugh. Then she saw that all of them had stopped playing and were looking at her.
突然，莫莉聽到孩子們?cè)谛?。接著，她看見他們都停止了玩耍，望著她?/p>
Molly stopped.
莫莉停下了腳步。
"Oh, my!" she thought. "Why are they looking at me? I wonder if my new dress looks strange. Oh, dear! I wish I had never come!"
“噢，天哪！”她想，“他們?yōu)槭裁炊伎粗?？難道是我的新裙子看起來太奇怪了？噢，老天??！真希望自己壓根兒就沒來！”
Then Molly heard a little noise behind her. She turned around to see what it was, and she saw why all the boys and girls were laughing.
這時(shí)候，莫莉聽到身后有一點(diǎn)兒嘈雜聲。她轉(zhuǎn)身一看，這下明白大家為什么笑了。
Penny, Jumbo, Big Boy, and Quack were all following Molly.
潘尼、江寶、“大男孩”和呱呱都在莫莉的身后跟著呢。
Penny, the dog, came first. Next came Jumbo, the pig. Big Boy, the rooster, walked behind Jumbo. Last of all came Quack, the little duck.
走在最前面的是小狗潘尼，接著是小豬江寶，公雞“大男孩”走在江寶后面，最后是小鴨呱呱。
Molly could guess what had happened. Jumbo, like all pigs, was always digging holes. He had made a hole in the ground under the garage, and all the other pets had followed him out.
莫莉猜到是怎么回事了。江寶和其他小豬一樣總是不停地挖洞。他在車庫(kù)的地上打通了一個(gè)洞，然后所有的寵物就跟著他一塊出來了。
Penny had gone sniff, sniff along the ground after Molly. Then the others had followed Penny.
潘尼沿途邊走邊嗅，尾隨在莫莉后面。其他幾個(gè)都跟在潘尼后面。
Poor Molly was angry at her pets.
尷尬的莫莉?qū)λ膶櫸锖苁巧鷼狻?/p>
"Go home!" she said to them. "Go right back home, every one of you!"
“回去！”莫莉說道，“你們都給我馬上回家！”
But the pets would not go home. They stood very still and looked very sad.
但這些寵物都不愿意回家，他們一動(dòng)不動(dòng)地站著，看起來非常難過。
Just then Betty Jane came running up. "Don't make them go home," she said. "Let them come to the party, too. It will be fun to play with them."
就在這個(gè)時(shí)候，貝蒂.簡(jiǎn)跑了過來?！皠e讓他們回家了，”她說，“也讓他們一起來參加派對(duì)吧！和他們玩一定非常有趣?！?/p>
"Please do," said the other children.
“讓他們留下來吧！”其他的孩子說道。
So Jumbo, Big Boy, Penny, and Quack went to the party, too.
于是，江寶、“大男孩”、潘尼和呱呱也一起參加了派對(duì)。
The children had a good time with the pets. Penny did all his funny tricks. And when the boys and girls had their ice cream and cake, all the pets had some, too.
孩子們和這些寵物玩得非常開心。潘尼耍了他所有好玩的小把戲。當(dāng)男孩和女孩們吃冰激凌和蛋糕的時(shí)候，寵物們也分到了一些。
When Molly got home, she said to her mother, "Oh, we had the best time!"
莫莉回到家里對(duì)媽媽說：“我們今天玩得非常盡興！”
"We?" asked her mother in surprise.
“我們？”莫莉的媽媽驚訝地問道。
"Yes, we!" said Molly. "Big Boy, Quack, Jumbo, and Penny! All five of us went to the party."
“對(duì)啊，就是我們！”莫莉說道，“'大男孩'、呱呱、江寶和潘尼！我們五個(gè)都去參加了派對(duì)。”
