The Origin of Father's Day
父親節(jié)的由來
Mrs. John B Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father William, whose wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.
華盛頓州的約翰·布魯斯·多德夫人在1909年首先提出了設(shè)立“父親節(jié)”的提議。多德夫人希望有一個(gè)特殊的日子來向她的父親———威廉·斯瑪特表示敬意。他的妻子在生他們第六個(gè)孩子時(shí)因難產(chǎn)而死。斯瑪特先生在華盛頓州東部鄉(xiāng)下的農(nóng)場里獨(dú)自養(yǎng)大了六個(gè)孩子。多德太太成人后她才意識到她的父親一個(gè)人養(yǎng)大孩子所表現(xiàn)的力量和無私。
The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19,1910 in Washington. And it was in 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson officially declared the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day.
1910年的6月19日人們在華盛頓慶祝了第一個(gè)父親節(jié)。林登·約翰遜總統(tǒng)最終于1966年宣布每年六月的第3個(gè)星期天為父親節(jié)。
Father’s Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father’s Day.
父親節(jié)現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)成為向父親及所有扮演父親角色的人表達(dá)敬意的節(jié)日。繼父，伯父，祖父所有成年男性都將在父親節(jié)受到尊敬。
father，這6個(gè)字母背后都擔(dān)負(fù)著深刻含義：

也只有第一聲“爸爸”響起，“家”才有了截然不同的意義

Father's Day in Canada
加拿大的父親節(jié)
In Canada, Father's Day is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm and fanfare. Since, the tradition of celebrating Father’s Day moved to Canada from US, Father’s Day in Canada is also celebrated on third Sunday of June. Just as in US, people in Canada too wear roses to express gratitude for their father. Traditionally, if the person is wearing red rose, it symbolizes the person's father is alive. Likewise, white rose means that the person's father is no more.
在加拿大，慶祝父親節(jié)的熱情是很高的。因?yàn)檫@個(gè)傳統(tǒng)是由美國傳來的，加拿大的父親節(jié)也定于六月的第三個(gè)星期天。和在美國一樣，加拿大人也通過戴玫瑰來表達(dá)對父親的感激。依照習(xí)俗，如果一個(gè)人戴紅玫瑰，代表他的父親尚且健在。而如果是白玫瑰，則代表他的父親已經(jīng)離世。
在這個(gè)世界上，最難懂的人就是父親，最珍愛的男人也是父親！
Children in Canada express affection and honor for their dad by presenting them cards, flowers and chocolates. In modern times, several other gifts of love including neckties, shirts, electronic gadgets, stationery items etc. are also gifted to father by loving children. Another noticeable trend about Father’s Day celebration in Canada is that apart from their biological father people wish “Happy Father's Day” to their grandfathers, stepfathers, foster father, uncles or any other man who is as affectionate and loving towards them as a father.
加拿大的孩子們通過送明信片、花以及巧克力來向父親表達(dá)喜愛崇敬之情?，F(xiàn)在，還有其它很多種傳達(dá)愛的禮物比如領(lǐng)帶、襯衫、電子工具以及輕工工藝品等。
在這個(gè)世界上，愛你最深卻又不表達(dá)的人，便是父親。
用自己的行動教會我們做人要大，大氣、大度、大愛，要妥協(xié)，要堅(jiān)毅，要承擔(dān)的是父親。

父親，是天底下最好的演員，
能將最深沉的愛表現(xiàn)得不著痕跡；
Father, is the best actor who says love silently;
父親，是午夜不斷電的廣播，
是不論喧囂寂靜始終陪伴的身影。
Father, is the late-night broadcast which is always beside us.

Unwittingly, we are growing up, and our fathers are getting old.

始終是獨(dú)屬于我們、保護(hù)我們不求回報(bào)的，

However, in our eyes, they are unchanged as before,
They are still the superheroes who only belong to us and protect us all the time.
