他的繪畫(huà)題材相當(dāng)廣泛，山水、老虎、竹梅畫(huà)得遂心應(yīng)手，很有古典氣韻，也有筆墨當(dāng)隨時(shí)代的建樹(shù)。畫(huà)老虎以紋謀骨，畫(huà)得骨力雄強(qiáng)，可見(jiàn)嘯天之威!動(dòng)態(tài)與勢(shì)態(tài)同時(shí)都有精彩的表現(xiàn)，這是他的老虎遠(yuǎn)觀看有跳天門(mén)之威，近看有臥鳳闕之神的重要原因。小寫(xiě)意可以筆筆相生，奪老虎之精神，也可以筆筆相映掠老虎之體貌，正是雅俗共賞的真功夫。

說(shuō)到山水創(chuàng)作，徐先生最有外師造化中得心源的表現(xiàn)力。青綠山水作得妙，盡有搜盡奇峰打草稿的寫(xiě)生積累。觀覽真山真水，經(jīng)由風(fēng)行雨霽的熏習(xí)，可以把心意完全漫泊在山水創(chuàng)作之中，通過(guò)筆墨蒼潤(rùn)的渲染，構(gòu)成云上山巔四面俊厚的浩莽之氣。上突危峰，下覽深谷，空間飽滿，滿而不塞，以百尺懸瀑作氣息聯(lián)絡(luò)，可以在骨法用筆的塑造中，生成氣韻生動(dòng)的妙哉。山水安知董與黃，唯有像先生這樣師造化，心入畫(huà)、意入畫(huà)、詩(shī)入畫(huà)，方可以把山水畫(huà)的色不礙墨，墨不礙色!蒼潤(rùn)之感，恰是天質(zhì)自然!先生畫(huà)梅、畫(huà)竹，取法文人畫(huà)的蕭蕭雅趣，畫(huà)里是嫻熟的技法，盈發(fā)出來(lái)的是君子的品位，雅畫(huà)梅竹，已經(jīng)脫離了“物”的束縛，走進(jìn)了“神”的境界，筆墨所作，色彩所染都是君子人格化的表現(xiàn)。清許勁節(jié)，梅雪爭(zhēng)春，最有裝點(diǎn)萬(wàn)家屏障的地氣!
